Our Story & Philosophy
Jerry Prettyman’s art negotiates the fluidity, urgency and rhythmic beauty of jazz and blues music and the cultural and social dimensions of the global African diaspora. As an artist, Jerry has never been locked into a single painting style; instead, much like the musicians who inspire and influence him, he is a vehicle through which multifaceted artistic expressions emerge.
Jerry, a native of Chicago based in the Baltimore area, studied Fine Art at Morgan State University, and Applied Art & Design at Catonsville Community College and the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA).

Living with Jerry Prettyman’s work is like being in conversation with the past, present, and future. There’s music in his brushwork, with a pulse that echoes ancestry, memory, and foresight.
His paintings carry a rhythm you can feel before you fully see it. Each of the 4 pieces that we have collected holds its own vibration— a visual hum of where we come from and what continues to move through us.
They offer stillness, but never silence. And we are deeply grateful to live with that music dancing on the walls throughout our home.
